Gilt-lettered dec. olive cloth. First Edition. Oakland: Pacific Press, [1904].
Pacific Press in Oakland published several vegetarian cookbooks around the turn of the century, out of a religious and moral theosophy about eating the flesh of other animals. They are often rare because many did not survive the 1906 earthquake. This book contains philosophy, as well as recipes like cereal roast, walnut loaf, tomato pie, vegetarian hot cakes, mint julep, and more. Rubbing to spine ends and a bit to corners; front hinge starting, else near very good.
